The story is very barebones. It's like a D&D guide animated. Though it isn't that strange since Lodoss started as a D&D session.
Even if it's the most standard fantasy, I actually like it that way. No parodies or dark twists, just old school sword and sorcery fantasy anime.
Or at least the OVA's. The animated series is shit except for the opening.

To be honest, I only particularly liked the first episode of Lodoss where they were going through the tunnels. Felt like a real DnD adventure. The rest felt more like barely animated DM's notes. Shiris best girl btw.

Also, the video game Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth is great! It's a metroidvania style of game.
