As a member of the band of the hawk he made a great deal of money, that he didn't spend much of. With that he probably had more than a lifetime's worth of money. He was also probably quite willing to steal money from the apostles that he killed, many of whom were likely quite wealthy.

But how did he store his money? His bag and pockets can only hold a limited amount of coins. Since he's a criminal by association with Griffith, he's not able to use any banks in Midland.

He is a badass with a big fucking sword; he lives in a world filled with monsters and criminals. Whenever he needs money, he just has to kill some bad guys and get their stuff. He has no need to "store" any large sum of money when he can just get what he needs from randos.

Fuck did he need money for? He hunted his own stuff and the occasional loaf of bread probably won't brake his purse. Maintaining his gear is probably the only thing that he really spend money on. He didn't have to pay 900 bucks for rent and half of that for electricity/gas and what not...

I don't think you understand how little a lifeftime's worth of gold would weigh. It probably wouldn't be a weight that the average person would be comfortable carrying around with them, but this is Guts.
