They lost almost every single one of their directors as a result of the arson attack. We're watching the implosion of the remaining member of the old holy trio of anime (Shaft, Madhouse, KyoAni).
Directors: Yamada (K-On, Silent Voice) - turned freelancer in 2020. Ishidate (VEG, Kyoukai no Kanata) - quit anime altogether in 2021. Takemoto (Haruhi, Hyouka) - killed in the arson. Fujita (VEG Gaiden) - turned freelancer in 2021.
Moreover they lost a bunch of key staff as a result of the arson as well.
(character designer) Nishiya (K-On, Silent Voice) - killed in the arson. (character designer & chief animation director) Takase (VEG) - quit anime altogether in 2021. (art director) Watanabe (VEG) - killed in the arson. (character designer) Ikeda (Haruhi, Hibike) - killed in the arson. (color designer) Ishida (Silent Voice, Haruhi) - killed in the arson.
There were people that left Shaft. I'm not sure to what extent they were affected though. Bishounen Tanteidan's visuals were good. We'll have to see how the new Madoka movie turns out to be sure.
pick any industry insider site, really fujita key animated the OP of akebi-chan this season and ishidate just quit, there's nothing else to say here

Kyoto Animation? What a horrible name for a studio, it reminds me of that tragedy. Very true.

a bunch of shaft's staff left for davidpro a while ago

Ishidate hasn't quit the studio, but he's taken a step back from directing to more of a managerial and mentor role. And the studio isn't short on directors, they have many episode directors waiting in the wings for a promotion.
Nolan Martinez
>ishidate just quit I thought he was moved to a teaching position for their school.

Shaft's staff leaves every few years and every few years Shinbou and his old buddies train up more youngsters and pop out masterpieces. The problem is that Shinbou and oldfags like Umetsu are getting on in years and may not have a rebuild left in them.
Dylan Wood
nah, he's gone

This is the first I heard Taichi Ishidate quitting
Joshua Davis
look user, even the slowpokes at sakugabooru are saying he quit
Aaron Cook
Didn't they all left after having to work on 24 episodes of Fire Force?
Parker Williams
Well, directing anime isn't worth your life I'd say.
Lincoln Ross
>And nothing of value was lost.
Just like your post
Gabriel Williams
>Probably doesn't help that animation studios have shitty pay.
KyoAni is infamous for giving way better working environment and pay. It's one of the reason why they sparingly do anime TV series because they want to make that one show really stand out.
Austin Ramirez
>implosion Did you see Maid Dragon S2? It looked like nothing changed at all at the studio.
