Only read the VN and I wanted to branch out. I've finished Gou manga and I'm mixed about it. It's generally good but it feels very condensed and it's pretty much the same arcs with only one to two differences.
Should I go into Sotsu or wait for Jun instead? I've heard mixed criticism for Sotsu but I didn't really keep up with the show.
You did the Gou manga, but you're looking at the Sotsu anime? Don't do that. You could watch the last two episodes of Sotsu to see how that train wreck ends (it's spectacular), the biggest complaint of Sotsu is it wastes the first 11 episodes recapping what happened in Gou.
Just read Meguri, that one is telling a pretty good story.
You got meme'd by Any Forums and Any Forums. Higurashi isn't good
Henry Jenkins
Meguri isn't translated or scanlated yet iirc and the Gou manga and anime are pretty similar, no? I liked the OG. I don't necessarily liked the ending and I prefer Umineko twist more (although I think the meta stuff got way too much) but Higurashi had more entertaining questions and answers arc.
Christian Ortiz
Random question, why wasn't Satoshi shot by the JDF when found after the GHD?
Luke Sullivan
Meguri is getting scanlated, twitter.com/BernScans. It's miles better than Sotsu. It's like if someone watched Sotsu, read everyone's complaints about it, and then thoughtfully modified it. We don't know if he'll land the finish yet, though. I still stand by my recommendation to only watch the last two episodes of Sotsu.
I finished reading to where we're at and I'm still very mixed about the whole idea. Gou was kinda fun but it's just a retelling of what we got so I mean there's no mystery. Learning Satoko is just looping over and over because I hate studying and then she just goes crazy feels kind of a lame cop out. But that's generally how I felt about episode 8 in the OG.
Anthony Johnson
Hasn't Meguri attempted to make it very clear Satoko's motivation isn't just that she hates studying? Besides showing us Satoko actually buckling down and studying for Rika, (and still failing), there's something going on where Rika always dies if she leaves the town without Satoko. There's sort of some mystery there, although it seems like it's just Eua gets bored and kills Rika to drive Satoko to despair.
Levi Collins
I know it's more then that, she's trying to find the perfect history where she can stick together with Rika and Satoshi but I do kinda feel so eh about the concept. We already generally got the mystery resolved now it's just the ending.
doesn't the anime end with Satoko and Rika going her seperate ways? Why didn't it work here?
Levi Murphy
Cause Rika (and Satoshi) both immediately die when they split up. Like I said, it's probably just Eua denying Satoko a happy ending so that she'll entertain her by loop shenanigans. It isn't much of a mystery, yeah, but I still enjoy it for what it is, some kind of simple greek tragedy.
Christian Smith
It doesn't happen in the anime?
Easton Gonzalez
It would be pretty dark if right after the anime ends, while Satoko's enjoying hotpot with her family, they get a call that the train Rika was on exploded. The manga is basically going "the anime solution will not work for this story".
Hunter Johnson
Oh no I meant I thought it would be pretty similar to the anime. In the anime, they never split apart until the end right?
Evan White
Right. The anime basically implies Satoko never tried anything but to convince Rika to not go to St Lucia, and that's why the ending where they're like "hey sometimes friends can be apart from each other" is so lame. In Meguri, that's the first thing she tries, she lets Rika go on without her. And then Rika and Satoshi die.
Jose Moore
>Cause Rika (and Satoshi) both immediately die when they split up. This makes me think about how meguri might end. It certainly cannot have the same ending as sotsu for obvious reasons.
Fuck you Ryukishi I fell for it again
Zachary Richardson
It's gonna be all the friends banding together and helping Satoko realize that Eua is the true villain and then they all beat up Eua with the power of Hanyuu I dunno, I'm not expecting a masterpiece but it will indeed be different (and thus better) than Sotsu.
Brandon Lopez
Also why doesn't Satoko react to Rena killing her uncle?
Julian Diaz
Ok, now read Umineko, it makes Higurashi look like someones DA fanfiction
Noah Brown
I did. I like both for different reasons. I like the actual twist and reveal better in Umineko but the execution was done better in Higurashi.
