Anything that is a school of combat is a martial art, fullstop: Fighting with a sword is still a type of martial art, as is fighting with a spear.
Fighting with a gun is also a martial art, as would be training on how to utilize throwing dynamite effectively to kill your opponent. The only reason why people don't understand this is that Asians got butthurt about guns invalidating Nobility's warrior culture (I.E. the rich wear armor and have good weapons and can cut the unarmored poor conscripts down like wheat), so they try and act like only eastern styles of fighting are martial arts and are somehow "Superior" or other bullshit.
If you ask any serious martial artist who's not some nationalist asshole, they'll very emphatically agree that Boxing is a legitimate and respected martial art for example.
