No, you like what you like. Berserk is a complex story with a lot of adventure and mystery. The 97 anime OST is remarkable and added to the property. If you were to play a rpg from 97 today, you would be like there is much better ones today and this is very dated and that sort of applies too. The best method would be to start with Berserk and move forward through the years. Date released is a bigger factor in people's top ten lists. It was another time and world back then. But only a douche would hate Berserk.

True maturity is understanding that DBZ is a valid choice as a favorite, it's the best battle shonen depicting the characters' lives over the years. Even Berserk is mostly about 21 yo Guts after the Golden Age.

DBZ does what no other shonen dares to attempt and confirms multiple relationships over the course of the series while constantly updating designs, it's very endearing and no one could be faulted for considering its favorite.
