Sequel series. The mangaka was ready for Fairy Tail to end and do something different. His publisher wanted more Fairy Tail because its one of their cash cows. The compromise they talked the mangaka into was Fairy Tail ending, and the author writing a sequel series illustrated by one of his former assistants and published on their digital store/phone app. It's worked out reasonably well.

do they focus back again in the different characters and their powers being used/interacting in interesting and varied ways? that was my main gripe with FT, towards the end asspulls aside it all turned into the stronger kamehameha/rasengan syndome
