I really don't see the similarity between OP and Naruto in regards to this "chosen one" situation. The reason Naruto being special was such a terrible idea was because half of the series was all about how Naruto was NOT special, which was emphasised multiple times. Whereas in One Piece, Luffy was pushed as being a very special person basically from the beginning.

For Naruto it contradicts half the story, for Luffy it's pretty consistent with it. I don't see how there is any comparison between the two here.

well you see, naruto fucking sucks and one piece doesn't

The way of the chad is not Naruto

Most people thought he was the son of the 4th yeah?
We never knew who his parents were yeah?
He had this all powerful being in him since the get go yeah?
Naruto’s thing wasn’t that he wasn’t special his thing was he was an outcast with no redeeming qualities he worked through those things and unlocked his redeeming qualities having the sages kids inside of you doesn’t make you special think of all those no name reincarnations that didn’t get mentioned aside from hashirama and madara

OP was about the idea of people setting out on an adventure to achieve their dreams. the One Piece treasure represented that.

Now we're being told ALL the people in the past 20 years, be it Law or Ace or Blackbeard, who set out to find the One Piece were all schmucks who has 0 chance of EVER being the pirate king because they weren't destined to do so

Roger was always waiting for someone, Reverse Mountain.

No one who read that intepreted as a "chosen one" thing and you know it.

No one cared about the chosen one until Naruto fucked it up.

Wrong. Chosen one stories always suck azz

>The reason Naruto being special was such a terrible idea was because half of the series was all about how Naruto was NOT special, which was emphasised multiple times.
Retarded people and speedreaders should never start threads. Naruto was initially deemed an untalented ninja but he was narratively always special from panel 1 of chapter 1 since he's the vessel of fucking demon that almost destroyed his village in the past. He also learned an extremely high execution technique in the first fucking chapter were its revealed that he has monster chakra reserves much bigger than anyone else's including highly trained adults. How the hell is that not special?

As for One Pissers, the current hissy fit isn't because people weren't aware Luffy is special due to his pedigree, but rather because despite that pedigree the story was always about how everything Luffy achieved was the result of his conviction and not that pedigree. That was even emphasized by the relatively simplistic nature of his devil fruits powers compared to other character's, and it was Luffy's ingenuity what kept pushing it through new boundaries.

>For Naruto it contradicts half the story
Lmao, Pissfags have the media literacy of 2 year olds

>is said to be the host to the strongest being in his respective universe, a being so strong is levels mountains with its tail (chapter 1)
>he goes on to abuse this beings powers on every occasion he gets, it's what allows him to win every real fights he has ever won
>learns a jounin level jutsu in a matter of minutes (chapter 1)
>beats the living hell out of a kekkei genkai wielding prodigy said to be stronger than Kakashi
>has a bridge dedicated to him due to how special he is
>beats the living hell out of a skyscraper sized snake with his bare hands
>summons a mountain sized from, a feat only accomplsihed by (according to the frog himself) Jiraiya (one of the legendary ninja of Konoha who was asked to be Hokage multiple times) and Minato (the at that time supposedly strongest character to have ever lived, personified ninja perfection)
>learns a jutsu that is said to be the strongest base attack in all of creation, a jutsu that has only been mastered by two other people thus far (again, Jiraiya and Minato)

And what does the mentally underdeveloped, borderline illiterate western anime fan take away from all this?
>Naruto is about hardwork, Naruto is a normal guy without talents, Kishimoto betrayed his series' core themes!!!
I refuse to believe that your lot ain't trolling at this point. Not even Lee was written to be hardwork over talent. Kakashi literally stated that he's a genuis and that what he did couldn't have been accomplished through hard work alone. There are no "normal kids" in Naruto, they are all genuises by sheer virtue of graduating to become ninja and Kishimoto never, NOT ONCE, even implied that hard work gets you anywhere. He always acknowledged that it was talent that did, and that even though hardwork being a factor, without talent you'd never get anywhere.

KISHI DEDICATED ENTIRE COVERS TO TELL YOU THAT NARUTO IS FROM A SPECIAL BLOODLINE

Not really. The only people who actively hate them are self-inserters who want to live vicariously through a talentless loser character who doesn't have anything unique about him since that kind of character reminds them of themselves.

Nah, youre making things up. I never self inserted as luffy and I still hate this crap

People think Naruto was not special because he was a bad student. Even average ninja we're learning jutsu much faster than him which makes him look like an incompetent tool but anyone who wasn't speedreading knew that the chakra demon was fucking with him.

Kill yourself, Narutard.

>The reason Naruto being special was such a terrible idea was because half of the series was all about how Naruto was NOT special, which was emphasised multiple times.
He is the container of the very powerful Kyuubi. He was revealed as special from the very first episode. But nice try, OP.

So having a demon was detrimental for Naruto until Hackamoto retconned everything.

>N-no, you either self insert as the main character in a story or you examine the material completely emotionally detached as if you were reading a text book
Why are brainlets armchair psychologists like this?

I never understood series where fighting and combat strength was the main barrier for plot progression. It's not like the main character will ever die so who cares. Side character fights are always better because there is actual tension and stakes. Chosen one or not it doesn't matter, because the end result is him becoming the most powerful and beating everyone regardless. Boring

>its been 20+ years since this series' first released, like 7 or so since it concluded
>pisstard still doesn't possess the mental capacity to understand Naruto
I feel sorry for you. One'd think that those whose entire identity revolves around CONSOOMING would at least be competent analysts, but, apparently, you can neither read, interpret images nor analyze narrative developments or themes. Your parents would feel ashamed that is assuming they don't have a similarly lowIQ as you do, of course

Special =! Chosen one
Neji, Gaara or Itachi are special
Madara, Nagato or Naruto are chosen ones

That implies that there's a higher power that actually makes a decision. Nowhere is it implied that Sot6P actually chooses who his sons reincarnate as.

If you wanna make the argument that they were "chosen by fate", you can make the same claim for Itachi mass murdering his family and having a 500 IQ. Since the concept of fate applies to his lot in life, too.

>That implies that there's a higher power that actually makes a decision
Yes thats what CHOSEN means, literal divine calling.
Morpheus is special, Neo is (not) chosen.

Well yeah, but some people in-universe believing he was an untalented ninja is different from the story pushing Naruto as an unremarkable average joe that had nothing but guts and determination going for him. The latter never happened and it was never Kishimoto's intention.

It was "detrimental" to him only insofar as it made being a normal ninja harder for him, but the tradeoff was that demon fox powers consistently pulled him through life or death fights because the fox is a sentient being with his own self preservation instinct. Nothing was retconned, Naruto works to master that power and becomes better at doing pleb ninja stuff as the series progresses until he point were Naruto can use all of the Foxe's powers and then some after connecting with him, which is what's actually thematically relevant to Naruto's character, not the superficial talent vs hardwork crap.

I know (You) are mindbroken pissbro but making threads about other shonen series is patahetic way to cope with it.

Hit a nerve, I see.

You know what the worst part is? That pissfags aren't even able to understand Naruto and all its setup despite having access to the story in full. The use of the Uzumaki whirlpool on the back of every Konoha nin's back lends itself to incredibly well to the story's over-arching themes, it's downright mindblowing. Naruto's entire design allowed the series' readership to immediately understand that he is special, that his family and clan are special, and that everybody in Konoha is an ally to him (eventually). That's how much subtext GODshimoto managed to convey with something as simply as the characters' attire and the whirlpool being attached to Naruto's arm. He truly is the Tobi of his own story.

Kill yourself, Narutard.

The demon powers were killing him and he was at risk of getting consumed by them like Gaara. Everything else is a retcon by Hackamoto. Especially Obito using it as a 12 year old who fought Minato and the tailed beasts being dindu nuffin good bois controlled by evil humans controllee by Tobi who was secretly controlling Pain, who was being secretly controlled by Madara who lived long as fuck because Hashirama cells do whatever the fuck, who was being secretly controlled by Black Zetsu, and White Zetsu was a previous human because why the fuck not, who were being secretly controlled by Kaguya, an Alien that split it's chakra, but the lesser chakra could overcome the bigger chunks of chakra, all revealed in the same arc shortly before the original Ninja Jesus bestowed his powers of healing, resurrection and asspullery to Naruto in his pocket dimension. All after Naruto "proved" to Neji, who died in the lamest possible way, that destiny wasn't decided by bloodlines or anything. And after everyone died and got revided either by Pain or by Zombie nonsense, except for Neji of course, and Rock Lee got completely sidelined, in favor of Naruto converting everyone, including the coolest guy, into the light side by... talking a little.

Ichigo, Luffy, Gon, Naruto, Goku, they are all fated to being the chosen ones due to circumstances outside their grasp. They're the same.

I can't believe I'm writing this, but from Deku is more deserving than them on this matter since his only factor was luck. He happened to be the quirkless child bestowed by the strongest quirk. Right place right time.

What are some good, well known shonen mcs who got to the top thanks only to their own hard work and abilities ? I'd love to say Ikki from Air Gear but even then he grew up with the sleeping forest sisters and is the son of a genius scientist, even if this has nothing to do with his growth on air treck. Too bad it doesn't matter because the story is so ridiculous.

Yes, you triggered my retard alert response and those usually travel through nerves.

Kill yourself, Narutard.
