The mangaka behind Somali and the Forest Spirit has broken their silence and said they'd like to restart the manga, but they are currently too poor to pay their assistants and need sales/donations to fund it. twitter.com/xxxgreisi/status/1501945009163370497
Dare we dream? I had no hope of this manga ever being completed but this seems like a possible light at the end of the tunnel
Ridiculous. Were they blacklisted from the industry or something?
Michael Walker
It was originally canceled due to the mangaka's health problems, which probably makes editors nervous about continuing it since who knows when they'll have to cancel it again
Jackson Kelly
I doubt that outside of incredibly wealthy artists, that you could at all fund a long term assistant corps with donations. Hopefully they get picked up again by a proper magazine that could help them on that. Health problems are a fuck. They take out a lot of good series.
Lincoln Howard
Damn. It's a great story and I hope they get the opportunity to continue it.
Blake Murphy
How did you get that from what he said? The production costs for the manga are beyond the author's means and the publisher doesn't cover them (this is standard across the industry). For that reason, he can't continue the manga.
Brayden Edwards
Why are japanese authors so unhealthy? Are they dumping salt on their tongue before chugging alcohol?
Jason Collins
>Literally had anime and manga is sold abroad. >needs donations to continue work what the fuck is wrong with elevens and their manga industry?
Logan Smith
Lots of work, little sleep. You can find schedules from some popular authors who are getting five hours of sleep a night, with most of their time spent drawing.
Noah Baker
>The Comic Zenon website had stated in December 2020 that the manga had ended due to the author's worsening health. oh man another mangaka dying due excesive wor- >Gureishi's Twitter account profile states they are currently undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder LOL HE'S JUST FUCKING BANANAS Somali is cute hope it can be finished anyways
Wait, didn't the mangaka died? I thought the series was prematurely ended because of some severe health reason.
Gavin Bennett
I thought author was going to die for 2020 news but it's just actually mental health thing and now they are without money at all and nobody backing them up. (Mental Health issues in japan is a very no no about giving people work)
Cameron Murphy
According to ANN, the author suffers from bipolar disorder.
Jayden Powell
Its not really all. some certain mangakas manage to be consistent in quality art while having lax schedule because of godlike talent compared to workaholics
Andrew Jones
Honestly it must be hell to try to draw manga when you're bipolar. That kind of volatility has to make it hard to keep a rigid schedule and meet deadlines
Liam Powell
I know but the company saying "worsening health" instead of "depression" or something makes it to the public like having a mortal degenerative disease or something. Japs hide mental issues problems a lot, even thinking they don't exist most of the times.
Cooper Martin
everything about this manga is so sad
Cameron Allen
Mental health is still health. It's not up to the publisher to reveal private details of the author's life.
Levi Bailey
I will say I'm glad it was only that because I also thought they had some sort of terminal illness and that Golem's story of trying to give his kid a safe and happy place to live before his life cycle expires was autobiographical. Relieved to see that's not the case
