manga>>>>>anime

What are the significant differences between the manga and anime?

It's pretty much a 1:1 adaptation, but that's its biggest flaw.
The main difference is the pacing. 18 volumes are a lot shorter than 74 episodes, the anime drags on too much.

That's one of my issues with the show. It drags on way, way too much. Well, that and the plot holes. The implausibility of some of the situations. And I also didn't find Johan Liebert to be that great or frightening of a villain.

watched it with my gf and we dropped it not even halfway thru. starts out good and has a few good episodes (the one where temma helps the parents of a murderer comes to mind), but its quality drops off fast. its seems like johan is the one writing the scripts.

It's been a really long time since I've reread Monster, this always bugged me whenever I got to vol. 16.

This was so fucking silly

I still can't buy the idea Johan was still a villainous mastermind while he was still a child.

checked, absolute kino

>hype
Was it ever HYPED? I only remember it being overrated.

Maybe hype was the wrong word for me to use. Monster is a good anime, but I didn't think it was "BEST ANIMU EVER MADE" some hyped it to be.

Monster is pretty good, but a lot of people currently are praising it to be one of the most amazing manga / anime to come around. I found it to be a really good read, but definetly overhyped.

It was overrated.

you have no idea how far peoples delusions can go if you feed them the smallest bit

Yes. You really need to be into it and could otherwise probably remove good 3/4 of the episodes while still telling the story. Then again journey is half the appeal as you see all the characters they come across and scenarios playing out.

this is not a kind of show that can be hyped simply because that's not the kind of audience it appeals to, no more than something like hyouge mono could be hyped.

I enjoyed it a lot more when I thought Tenma had some sort of split personality and he was the killer. I had this belief going into the show as my friend had recommended it years before I actually watched the show. In my hazy memory of his recommendation, I thought he said it was a show about a serial killer surgeon. This made the experience much more enthralling, especially the scene in which he confronts Lunge, as he came to my viewpoint.

Obviously this idea was dispelled not long after, but it made the first chunk of episodes so much more enjoyable, it gave the show an entirely different more sinister atmosphere. I still like Monster a lot, it explores a broad cast of characters and gives them satisfying conclusions to their story arcs. However part of me wishes it had been a shorter, more concise story, following the plot I mistakenly believed initially.

we need more believable despicable characters
