One Piece

People often talk about Oda's paneling but no one talks about his art often.
Do you think his art has gotten worse or better? I'm a fan of more messy and sketchy artstyles like Gege or Fujimotos but for some reason Oda's looks more "rushed" then anything. I really dont like the overuse of screen tones and the squiggly lines for hatching.

O MY CHOSEN ONE, O MY DEVIL FRUIT, O MY JOBFFY

I think the whole big war going on is making his art more messy cause i dont remember WCI looking as messy was raid Wano does. Or maybe hes just like this now i dunno

It's not that his art got worse, he still draws very cool places and he's very imaginative, it's just his stupid decision of ruining cool spreads with reaction panels and adding too many characters

Jesus why did you think it was a good idea to make another fucking one piece thread

A while ago there was an interview or authors note or something where he mentioned that he couldn't have all of his assistants around at once cause of Japan's lockdown laws
Dunno if thats changed

It has gotten very crowded lately but otherwise Oda is still a creative artist and great with linework.

>I'm a fan of more messy and sketchy artstyles like Gege or Fujimotos
Who can be a fan of such shitty style? art can be sketchy but still look good, Fujimoto character designs are passable, but Gege's are straight up GARBAGE.

The thing with the paneling It's everyone can see It's shit, but art style depends on your taste. I mean you still have some people that think that early Bleach and modern JoJo looks better

This is it

My final cope: Luffy's body is being possessed by Joy Boy because of the fire festival. Joy Boy's soul is awakened in Luffy for the fire festival only

His art sucked compared to when Kishi and Kubo’s works were on Jump and Oda’s current art is even worse now. That is why nobody talks about it.

Gege’s female characters are garbage, but you can’t deny Yuji, Gojo, Sakuna, Mahito are all instant classics in terms of design

Making Haki a visible, active ability instead of an invisible passive bonus was one of the worst decisions Oda ever made, because the heavy black and lightning effects don't mesh well with his character designs and this was made worse by his artstyle degrading over the years and the cluttered panels

Only speedreaders think the paneling is shit. Paneling is Oda’s main specialty in terms of art. Picrel for example any speedreader would call messy, but if you take your time and read each panel one by one they flow nicely. After Kaido gets hit there is a small panel of the damage he’s taken, falling backwards, some space, and then a small transition panel to really sell how much damage this attack did without having to show Kaido getting a big injury from he attack. Even the dialogue on the right side of the page helps to build the tension for Luffy’s big attack to follow

>Gojo
literally kakashi but worse

His paneling and nu-art sucks. I think he had one recent panel where he went pack to his old style, I think it was Drake's fight maybe, and it looked 10x better than everything else he did recently.

Yeah, it seems so forced that many double pages are just a center piece image with a lot of messy shit in the borders, or unnecessary spreads where only a bit part of a panel of a single page invades the other page for no reason whatsoever. You could argue Oda is experimenting with this but he's yet to se some improvement, because every single chapter it's just as bad, there's no reason to keep doing this, on digital manga it's at most decent, but in a physical release it's simply unreadable for the worst ones. Oda was the king of simplicity so I do get why his manga art is going to the gutter, he's doing something he isn't specialised in. Because One Piece is actually famous for having amazing spreads ten years ago.

I like his newer designs better but the art itself is rougher, uglier and less clean.

I hate how half assed he draws muscles.

On a digital release, this is passable, but only if the scan is big, if it's 1200px this thing is painful to see, period, some panels are so fucking tiny they might as well be separated on a proper single page and leave room for the actual spread, which of course is ruined on a physical release, therefore, you clearly get that current One Piece is not meant to be read physically anymore (which is actually sad).

Found it, is was the Killer fight. Kubo was right. Nobody needs to see a background of some generic room in Onigashima, we already all know what it looks like. The background doesn't need to be cluttered with 1000 speedlines either.

And the SFX look clean as fuck, Oda has abused them hard on Wano and Viz shits on the manga pages more for this very reason.

Also, the flow of reading in almost all of One Piece has always been good, but the actual art panelling is the one that is shit, but curiously enough it only becomes bad when it's a forced spread or an unnecessary one. Single pages don't suffer as much of bad panelling like spreads do. This beg the question if Shueshia or his editor force on him these spreads that nobody really wants.

One Piece panelling is dogshit compared to DBZ which is honestly the only good example
