Why does Nippon like the 'goofy idiot is secretly most powerful man on Earth' trope so much?

While it is certainly an overused stereotype I vastly prefer it over the no-fun-allowed witty one-liner edgelords that were so common in western shit.

They're nice people.

Superman and Popeyes.

>They're nice people.
Are they?

Popeye was hardcore 24/7. Spinach just made him even more brutal than normal.

>He thinks it's a Japan thing

Was Columbo actually powerful? Pretty sure he just baited criminals into fucking up and admitting incriminating things.

Because they're powerful enough to not give a shit what other people think.

Cope/projection

There was an episode where he managed to outsmart a Mensa genius. It's implied at the end of the episode that he's a genius himself.

Vash and Kenshin are ashamed of it. Kenshin and Goku also have actual practical reasons to hide their power level.

The entire show is him outsmarting geniuses or at least high-society types.

Clark Kent is a shy pansy hiding Superman
Peter Parker is a loser nerd hiding Spider-Man
Bruce Wayne is a brainless playboy hiding Batman
And so on.

self insert virgins

self insert virgins beta faggot cucks

This so much

Kenshin isn't the most powerful man in his series

>Bruce Wayne is a brainless playboy hiding Batman
>Bruce Wayne
>Brainless
Bruce Wayne is just about the furthest thing from brainless possible. Dude's IQ is so high it's literally a plot hole. Also, Bruce Wayne is the mask, and Batman is the real person. Which is reverse to Superman, where Clark is the real him, but Superman is the persona he dons to help people. Even though he's an alien, Clark still identifies with his humanity very strongly.

Way to miss the point. The Bruce Wayne facade indeed is a shallow, dumb playboy as almost everyone in universe sees him.

Because those characters make you smile.
Ever read an edgelord hero and smiled?
Honestly you could have and I would like examples. I'm just very tired and can't think of many right now.

Ahh, I see what you're trying to say. My mistake. Blame my reading comprehension on that. Yeah, the Bruce Wayne persona is indeed one of a self-centered billionaire Playboy who's a bit of a dumbass.

I honestly really respect Batman and Superman as characters. I think both have a lot of really interesting nuances that make them really fun to read about. I'm not the biggest DC fanboy personally, nor Marvel either, but I think both Batman and Superman, and their respective rogues galleries are really well done in general, and deserve more credit. I was reading about them a few months ago, and watching some reviews of the DC Cartoons like Batman, Superman, and Justice League, and thoroughly enjoyed learning about both characters.

>Ever read an edgelord hero and smiled?
yes, they can be funny as hell.

No that's characters that look like this
