>set up the main character's son to be the focal point of the next arc
>was primed to be his successor
>instead do absolutely nothing with him
>"heehee now he's a geek"
It was literally perfect, why did they screw up gohan so fucking badly?
Set up the main character's son to be the focal point of the next arc

Blame Chi Chi
Vegita fans:
Editor-san didn't want Gohan to take the reigns.
Toriyama is infamously his editor's bitch. Though he also made a fuck ton of money doing, so clearly what do I know about the publishing business? Nothing that's what.
Wrong.
Wrong.
Toriyama admitted it himself that Gohan did not have what it takes to be a main character like Goku, so he changed his mind.
>It was literally perfect, why did they screw up gohan so fucking badly?
Blame the fans. They preferred Goku and so Toriyama brought him back to life.
Speaking of Gohan. Pic related would've been perfect to fuck with Mirai Trunks.

Die.
Only losers die. Like Cell.
To add onto this. Gohan was more popular than Goku was when it was running at that time.
>It was literally perfect, why did they screw up gohan so fucking badly?
Gohan wasn't really suited for the role of MC the way Goku was. Toriyama wanted a dumb fuck and Gohan was anything but that.
*Bejita
It would have taken the manga from early battle shounen with your typical hyperactive protagonist to some of this new-age shit we get dumped on us every season. Sappy main character that snaps is cringe, and based toriyama knew better than to do it. He would have been ahead of the curve, but the man has standards.
Damn those massive number of votes why are numbers so low now in any manga popularity poll?
Are the voters only jump subscribers?
Why not blaming Toriyama?
Gohan's shit in Cell saga was absolutely atrocious. I would be embarrassed of him too.
People call the 80's to early 90's the "golden era" of Shonen Jump here and there, even if Cell arc was around 1994 at this point. You could say Jump was at its prime back then. It's insane how the top 2 spots almost make up 100,000 votes.
totally fan driven.
A generation of hardcore fans couldn't even handle Goku growing up, let alone being superseded by his son.
In the end, Toriyama is a father himself, and writing the son in as the main character could have been difficult given the harshness of what the character would go through.
>they
his name is Toriyama and he found him not as fun to write as Goku
Dragon Ball should have ended after the Cell saga.
