Seconding all of this. The whole "but your ancestors" argument is beyond retarded, no matter what context it's used in. That was absolutely bad writing, and it was even worse that Jean didn't retaliate. Did it wrong in the manga, and did it wrong once again when animated.

Isayama was very selective about which wrongdoings by the Warriors/Marley he addressed and which ones he quietly memory-holed.

That meaning what? This is my problem with this story. It demands the children pay for the sins of their fathers. Marley only gets to be where it is by Karl Fritz just letting them take over his own people. Okay fine his Empire deserves to pay for it's sins right? Except at what point is the bill paid? Faye Jeager did not know what an Eldian Empire even was. Carla Jaeger sure as hell didn't know. The problem is that Paradis has been disconnected from the world for an entire century. Their two-dimensional bad guy has been in the ground for 100 years. The people on the island are four generations removed from the actual villains. So no, there was no Rumbling threat until Marley created it.

Speaking of that, The Rumbling isn't this incomprehensible thing that came out of nowhere for no reason. The entire world was warned about what the island represented. Granted the King was bluffing. But the rest of the world did not know that. And Marley attacked them anyway. Then Marley marshaled the rest of the world to exterminate the island for the crime of fighting back against they fight they started. So using ancestors as an excuse is bullshit and taking a moral high ground against the rumbling is nonsense. The world was totally okay with genocide. They just never thought the gun would be turned on them.

This is also kind of why I'm against Armin's plan to use The Rumbling to make the world back off for a little while. The Rumbling was already used as a threat and it only lasted 100 years. Now the rest of the world has the balls to gamble the existence of the human race with its increased Anti Titan weapons. Even if the rest of the world does back off, what stops them from creating weapons that can invalidate the rumbling in only 50 years. The scouts did it with wrist-mounted pipe bombs and one nuke
