I've watched the previous series and they don't quite reach the level of mediocrity that this part turned.

So, what happened to her mother? That's such a random detail to drop in. Made me do a double take because I thought the woman from the next episode preview was the same girl after a timeskip.

ironically they took the diamond mermaid and this mermaid almost looks like it.

It's pretty clear the staff doing this season wanted more episodic focus. I think this shows the problem with attempting it though. It's very hard to keep consistent quality and engagement when every episode needs to stand by itself.

The main story in the 2nd half seems more engaging than the one in the first half though.

I think they just split the writing team between the main plot and the episodic ones. Not sure if all the interruptions of the story were planned, or they had shuffle schedules around due to the late addition of episode 0 and the double episodes for Christmas and the Olympics. The story episodes in the second half seem to have higher production values on average, so maybe those needed more time.

The episodic ones are explicitly written by guest writers, whose names are written in the previews for each one.

Is the new season even worth getting into? I loved the fujiko spin-off and part 4, but part 5 was pretty meh. Haven’t seen anything too positive posted about part 6. If not, any lupin movies you’d recommend?
