This actually makes sense, though, the lighting on his hair matches the lighting on his face. The left one just doesn't have lighting on his hair for some reason.

Odds are a proper Blu-ray restoration of the cel era footage would give you rather different colours. They're actually a fair bit more vibrant than shown on old VHS footage.

His hair is blue. The darker shaded part isn't entirely black either.

Kids in Japan liked Yokai watch more at the time so SM and PM2019 changed the artstyle to a more globohomo look.
