it's 2 hours long, just watch it
ヽ(´∇`)ノ
it's a personal favorite. kind of out there, but pretty enjoyable. music is great, the pillows are GOAT.
Forced wacky Imaishi shit. The OST didn't even register with me. Dropped.
>nonsensical plot
>shit characters
>lol so random XD
>style over substance
>japanese humor
>made for people who don't like anime
The only people who likes it either saw it in their teens or never watched anime before
Imaishi I kicked down the door at Gainax and screamed “Anno, stop trying to make everybody depressed. Let’s rock out.”
Go watch Niea_7.
Yes, it’s like watching paint dry but it shows that an alien in a coming of age story is nothing new to anime.
Someone once described it as lightning in a bottle.
It's short and a lot of fun.
It doesn't have any sequels.

>It doesn't have any sequels.
It does have a sequel, a shitty one though
I'll be honest with you, it's complete garbage in terms of writing, narrative, dialogue, and characters. It's also full of lol random humor which went well in the 2000s when that kind of thing was popular, but it's aged horribly. It has good animation and music, and that's it, but the music came from a real band so I suppose the anime can't be credited for that. It's the 2D equivalent of having keys dangled in your face so if you're the kind of person who just wants to see something flashy for a short while, then you'll love it. If you like actual substance and quality in your entertainment, you're better off looking elsewhere.
Not quite. It has two sequel series involving different characters and they were both so awful and outdated that nobody talks about them. Just goes to show how badly the whole thing aged since it can't survive in a modern environment and most people who speak fondly of the original are viewing through nostalgia goggles. It's okay to like it and say it was fun, but I wouldn't describe it as "good" overall by any means.
Fooly Cooly has no sequels in the same way that there is no Tsukihime anime.

thanks for comfy, got pic related from there. It answers OP
Back in the early 20s, there was a conscious effort to try too hard to be edgy, irregular, inconsequential, and out of place. Anime directors saw themselves as visionaries and were full of themselves. Looking back at it, all I can feel is vicarious embarrassment.
who the fuck refers to the early 2000s as the early 20s are you retarded or brain damaged?
>Back in the early 00s
Here, I fixed my post. I hope you're happy now.
>Nonsense plot
>Garbage writing
>Lol so Random XD
Are you people unironically retarded? I mean this seriously, because FLCL was like the most heavy handed coming of age story with the most obvious imagery possible. They were literally hammering it into your face with every episode; if you somehow didn't pick up on it then you're denser than depleted uranium.
You're trying too hard here. Almost as hard as FLCL.
FLCL wasn't even trying hard. Its not some complex multi-layered opus with deep themes. Its literally just a coming of age story with some very blatant imagery. I mean the entire storyline is Naota getting out of under the shadow of his brother, growing up, becoming his own person, and dealing with puberty. Did you really, honestly, not understand that the giant erections coming from his head that made all the women blush were dick metaphors?
Being a coming-of-age story doesn't mean it was a good story, or a good coming-of-age story. In the end, all Naota learned was that he shouldn't allow himself to be a replacement for others, not for Mamimi or for Haruko and that he should enjoy his "boring" life and make the most of it. However, this is all decided in the last two episodes and comes out of nowhere. Even then, he didn't truly develop until the last few minutes of the final episode when he had the chance to live an exciting life, but turned it down. Even this is half-assed because he still loves Haruko despite her not caring for him at all. He still allowed himself to be a replacement and loves someone who treats him as a surrogate, refusing to eliminate her despite her being a power-hungry cunt who welcomes and encourages wanton destruction and her continued existence is a danger to the universe.
>Garbage writing
Yes, it has bad writing with no answers to any questions and things happening out of nowhere. Oftentimes nothing substantial happens in an episode and the characters are dawdling around or the plot skips to different segments with no explanation. There is no background information provided on the narrative and it's impossible to know what's even happening unless you read the art book and multiple concepts, and even then they aren't even relevant to the anime itself because the show refuses to make them pertinent in any episodes.
>Lol so random
Yes, Canti literally shitting out Naota, guitars coming out of Naota's head, Haruko's many outfits and nonsense abilities, the entirety of the final battle, Naota's dad being a robot all of a sudden, a massive machine popping out of Eri's head for no reason while she shoves her pussy in Naota's face, etc.
It's okay to like FLCL, but don't try to puff it up to be more than it is. It's a nonsense wacky anime with no rhyme or reason and was created purely to be flashy and stupid. Nothing more. You're looking for meaning when it isn't there.
You're trying too hard to make it sound like it didn't try too hard. This is a boorish as the show itself, but people twisting their brains to defend wacky aesthetics without clear purpose entertain me. Go on.
It's weirdly nostalgic even during your first time watching it.
