I'm going to be direct here: Kusaka ruined Colress's character, period. The Colress of the games was an neutral, morally gray figure who did not stoop so low as to outright murder let alone insults; this variant is a mockery of the character himself, because being a crazy mad scientist 101 template is NOT who Colress really is! Kusaka may be free to have different interpretations of game canon characters, but here, he screwed up big time.
The anime also made the same mistake as well by degrading his character into the same template, and it honestly sucks to see such a unique and complex figure being caricatured like this.
