The sad truth. It's why shounen continues to prevail as one of the leading genres in the market. So long as there's tits/fujobait and flashy fight scenes, any series has a good chance of doing well so long as it doesn't do anything extremely retarded.

I actually don’t think Chitanda is poorly written,
We just kinda haven’t gotten to her “part” of the story. We had Myaka and Hotorou and Satoshi be focuses, but until the last episode, we didn’t see too much into the inner world of Chitanda.
Since the anime never got there it makes sense, but the last episode does reveal true depth to her
