Have standards gone up or down since the 90s
Its gundam but in generic fantasy isekai world

The standards haven’t changed, but the greats of the 2000s and 2010s are far superior to anything before. The advent of shitty digital animation meant that anime had to be judged by the merit of the writing and characters rather than the quality of the animation and cels (because 99% of early digital anime looked trash). Old anime generally prioritise style over substance
It isn't similar to Gundam in any capacity.
It's shit but in generic shit world. Well maybe the world isn't generic, but since the incompetent writers didn't develop the setting in the actual show the nobody really knows.
Escaflowne was great. I liked the mechanical designs and the animation was good. I also liked that twink bad guy whatever his name was. Reminds me a bit of Dunbine
>it's got mechs so it's a Gundam clone
What are newfags like this?
>Mecha = Gundam
Stop doing this you're like those old people who call all robots ''Transformers''.
German opening a banger

show it's self, ehh it's fine not really my thing so I dropped it but nice animation, art and music.

This song is going be stuck in my head for a while

imagine being so desperate to be angry about something that you choose to not like Escaflowne of all things
Escaflowne was so fucking good. The way everyone's back story ties together is pretty damn cool.
The movie isn't as good, but the opening scene and ending is pure kino.
Is the movie still worth a watch?
I got around to watching Escaflowne two years ago during lockdown.
It's honestly a mixed bag.
Robot designs are fantastic and it's turn of the century Sunrise so the animation is such a delight. Visually the world is also great and some episodes are pretty good.
Watching the old-school shojo isekai formula in this day is amusing for its own reasons, but I can't say with a straight face that the plot was any good, nor did I like most of the cast, except Allen
Hitomi's power literally being the ability to move the plot forward was also extremely cheesy
Yes, after you watch the series. They really simplify the plot, but the animation is insanely good. Especially the opening scene and the closing mech battle.
It's good and very much worth watching, but it's a very different, darker take on everything from the show
It's the problem of almost all anime originals, even decent ones feel too artificial and uninspired compared to solid manga adaptations.
I want mecha anime to come back but I know every time a new mecha anime comes out they get a braindead writer who makes the stupidiest shit ever
we need a single good mecha anime written by a good writer. Just one.
its gudam, but equally bad
>when OP thinks all mechs are gundam
might as well
>inb4 buttmad Nagaifags
Watch Granzort instead, it's basically Rayearth except actually any good (and came first).
