The short story by itself is pretty famous, same with the 2003 Japanese adaptation. They were famous enough to even inspired a Korean movie adaptation.
All the three of them avoid the childish and saccharine tone of the Bones version. The anime movie is more interested in trying to be a poor man's “Your name” than explore the themes of the previous works.
