I HAVE A VERY SUBVERSIVE IDEA.
Ufotable claims they're adapting Fate. The Fate route. And it allllll starts very normally... Until some small changes come in. It turns out. IT TURNS OUT IT'S ACTUALLY AN ADAPTATION OF ARCHER'S TIMELINE. This allows Ufotable to keep a lot of the same beats of the Fate route (Archer's timeline is a hypothetical Fate 'normal'), but lead to embellishments for plot, and animation's sake. Leads to a bit of a downer ending, sure, but maybe you can throw in Last Episode as a nice cap off.
