I started reading it some 20 years ago, this, Berserk, Trigun and Battle Angel Alita were the first manga to really keep my interest.
Is it worth reading that alita reboot or sequel or whatever it is?

Honestly, yeah, but you have to keep in mind that it's VERY different from the original series: it's basically a shonen tournament arc with ever-increasing insanity and power levels for 90% of its run, and some completely batshit plot developments. A lot of people end up bouncing off of it because they are taken aback by the drastically different direction.
If you're willing to accept its differences with the original and go in with the right expectations, then it's an absolutely insane read. I personally absolutely loved it.
Also, keep in mind that it retcons the final chapter of the original series (the one where Alita wakes up with a new body in Zalem) since that was written when the author was so sick he thought he was going to die and didn't think he could finish the manga properly, hence why it felt rushed.
