Thoughts on ninja scrolls? Why isn’t anime this good anymore
Thoughts on ninja scrolls? Why isn’t anime this good anymore
Because it's better now.
Make a good thread next time.
anime is new now so it's bad
Why can't you people just talk about a old show without some rant about new anime. It reminds me of those teens who couldn't talk about any 80s song without mentioning Justin Bieber constantly
Where did he rant about new anime?
I liked it.
It had a follow-up that was bad--removed a lot of the gore, it removed 100% of the tits and he was a bodyguard for some mary sue who the shogunate ninjas and the monstrous anti-shogunate ninjas were all after because of REASONS--and now nobody talks about Ninja Scroll anymore.
purely seinen-driven salaryman fantasy stuff like Kawajiri anime is definitely dead now but you can find relatively similar appeal and impressive visuals in more family-friendly fantasy + period piece stuff like like Kimetsu no Yaiba
>purely seinen-driven salaryman fantasy stuff like Kawajiri anime is definitely dead now
*in well-produced anime, I should say
Kawajiri is great but I think I prefer Oedo over Scroll
Outside of blood gore and nudity there was nothing to ninja scrolls. It was extremely forgettable and generic. That kind of show is the marvel movie of anime. All style no substance.
do you also think classic martial arts movies without deep stories that focus on having impressive action are bad?
like is five venoms or something like that bad. you people have incredibly pseudointellectual taste
>Bomb go boom fist go whooooosh! Movie good! 10/10
you're deeply mentally ill if you have that view while on a cartoon board
Or it takes more than a pair of tits and some blood for me to like a show. Im not against something like that existing for a guilty pleasure but to call it something praiseworthy is a gigantic stretch. As i said all style no substance.
Don't worry, it's just another shonen baby who needs to have explained 5 times why is Deku crying again to stayed tuned to the story.
I don't know how many people are old enough to remember this, but back in the 90s, anime was known as violent, pornographic cartoons from Japan aimed at adults, and was considered quite edgy. Ninja Scrolls was one of the shows that contributed to this reputation, and the dub was frequently shown on the Sci-Fi channel and other places.
It's funny how quickly the reputation changed in the early 2000s. Now it's mostly associated with autism, pedos and socially retarded waifufags.
I doubt you're smart enough to judge literary merit if you equate everything simple & visually driven to modern Marvel films and fail to see the depth involved in making a simple action film truly great
Fock off mutt, go back to your isekai thread
Vampire Hunter D wasn't just an action movie. It had great art direction and animation, an amazing attention to detail, and leaned heavily on its themes. The overall story might have been simple, and there's only so much you can do with the characters in a single movie, but it had so many things going for it other than the action.
That's cuz lame early internet anime fandom called most of it shallow shit which only a few titles surviving as "real classics".
Literally the only reason Oedo 808 is considered "so bad it's good schlock" and Ninja Scroll is considered "objectively good" is varied dub quality. Both are really stylish and cool I fucking hate old anime criticism
There's still nothing wrong with something being "just an action movie" and you guys just go "buhh michael bay marvel buhhh" at everything that's just meant to be cool and fun as if all simple action films are made equally.
There is little literary merit to a show if most of what happens is just an exuse to cut to the next pair of bare breasts or gore scene. Of course not all popcorn action flicks are guilty of this and there are a lot of them that have a lot of merit but ninja scrolls is not one of them. Most old martial arts movies are not one of them. The majority of all media that is created is garbage and the only difference is how far down into the bin it sinks. That is not an excuse to have no standards.
Like what you want however you want but to praise something as some kind of untouchable art is just silly. Especially when its devolves into a bunch of shit flinging and bait posting like these threads always fucking do.
No need for an emotional outburst, little sperg. I'm neither American, nor do I like iseaki, and I don't see what either has to do with my post.
Second sentence

my point isn't that Ninja Scroll has serious literary merit, it's that if you act as if all narratively simple action-focused films are made equally you're likely not observant and smart enough to judge literary merit when it is there.
I wasn't talking about the anime fandom of the 90s. They obviously objected to the description of anime as simply being about violence and pornography. I'm talking about the public perception, and casual watchers, who had pretty much only seen Akira, GitS and maybe something like Ninja Scrolls or a cyberpunk anime.
Gotta be trolling nobody is this stupid. Serious literary merit? Ninja scrolls? What a fucking joke.
I literally said it doesn't; learn to read
