Yugi's hair oddly works for me. There's something about how it's constructed and the colors that are used that make it feel almost natural. The sequel anime's hairstyles feel like total anime hair, though. The colors and shapes are just weird and nonsensical. Yugi's hair just works.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I always thought post-Yusei protagonists looked particularly stupid with the hair, but it kinda felt like I was biased considering Yugi. But yeah, his hair, despite being outlandish, is still muted and kinda looks like hair.

Yugioh protagonist characters have patterns to their hair. Different ones for different reasons, but some things are consistent. All of them have lightning bolt patterns in someway in their hair, in reference to Osiris.
