Suicide in Manga

Post em. There is something compelling about the fragility of life being displayed in black and white on paper.

Isnt suicide a common-thing in Japan? Like, they do it when they can. Some youtubers living there say's even the "mind-doctors" there are incompetent.

This thread was made because I was reading a nakani hmanga yesterday

Ok then, i will say Gantz.

Forgot pic related.

How was I supposed to jerk off to this? I got blue balled hard.
It's no where as bad as people make it out to be it's comparable to most european countries

i can't think of any specific chapters that it happens in per se - though a lot of j-novels i've read always seem to involve it in some way. unfortunately there aren't any trains or high-rise buildings where i live and i don't possess nerves of steel so can't be bothered to give it a go
per capita it's nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be, and correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure it's just more culturally ingrained? i dunno, my mum taught english there in the 80s for awhile and i always remember her saying that
of course you did

I think it's just culturally ingrained and more people being aware of it as an issue. But I have no idea how the jap high suicide rate meme came to be popular outside of japan though. I'd always see japan brought up specifically on topics about suicide more than greenlander kek.

how is suicide an issue.

The final arc of Ten was really great.

I'll also hijack the thread a bit to ask if you guys know of any mangaka who've killed themselves too. I have kind of a fascination with artists who commit suicide.

What got to me about this page was how nonchalant it all was. It's easy to make it seem dramatic as hell in manga but I appreciate authors who express how banal the actual attempt is. Consistent, static panelling and camera angle. Just a few steps away into ground meat on a railroad.

what was her motivation?

That one felt hard, dammit
Punpun is feel porn

Not a mangaka, but Osamu Dazai, probably Japan's favorite /depressioncore/ author killed himself by drowning with his lover.
>Keikichi Nakahata, a kimono merchant who frequented the Tsushima family, was shown the scene of the water ingress by a detective from the Mitaka police station. He also speculates that "Dazai was asked to die, and he simply agreed, but just before his death, he suddenly felt an obsession with life".

Don't have any panels on me at the moment but the one in Soranin is memorable for me.

They really gotta put railings on those things.

Japanese don't treat suicide as something particularly outrageous. Westerners, who consider this topic shameful, assumed that if japs are so open about it, then their rates must be through the roof.
That, and the whole kamikaze-seppuku cultural stuff doesn't help either.

Severe depression. The cause seems to have been a slowburn build up of stress from overworking at a Black Company for a long time.

if you need help go talk to your friends, family and people you trust, life can be great and will get even better after the pandemic ends so do not waste it and life have a lot of good experiences and memories that are gonna make you think it was all worth it, a lot of people who tried to end their lives remember that they changed their mind and are happy to be alive, if necessary search for help in the internet and if you can afford it call a therapist "ending your life is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" also do not be shy to call for help..

Yeah, suicide being a taboo is a Christian morality thing. Seppuku-like suicide (i.e. lost honor and whatnot) was common in Rome too.

>if you need help go talk to your friends, family and people you trust
But those are exactly the ones who drove me up to this point in the first place.

Have a serious long talk with them about it, i am just a random who in the internet and dont be shy

>a lot of people who tried to end their lives remember that they changed their mind and are happy to be alive

I've honestly thought of suicide just to get that feeling. I remember reading of someone playing Russian roulette by himself, just for the thrill of it. He wrote a note beforehand explaining what he was doing, incase he dies.
