Well, anime and tolkien goblin differ so much. It seems that in anime goblin survival is not the fittest but the many. Goblin can impregnate human women it means they're genetically close to human, hinting on a branching in evolution line million of years ago.
The question is, if they're just different branch in evolution, why goblin children still look like goblin? and where's female goblin?
Goblin women used to exist but their children is inferior and small due to smaller goblin womb. One day a goblin saw a woman and rather than killing her he decided to fuck her and keeping her as his personal fuck toy. What he didn't expect is she getting pregnant and giving birth to a Goblin, but bigger and stronger.
Also strong gene in goblin means their human x goblin children will look like goblin, and yet they are bigger and and a bit smarter than goblin x goblin children. Soon these crossbreeds became dominant in their tribe thanks to their better brain and body.
This will continue for several thousand years. With more and more human women kidnapped and turned into goblin's breeding sow. Female goblin are neglected and slowly died off as more and more goblin prefer human women. So do male pure breed goblins.
If this crossbreeding continues, it probably still need a hundred thousand of years of crossbreeding before goblin develope brain to be as sophisticated as basic human and body mass to be as strong as basic human as well.
What if green women in Star Trek is the result of million of years of crossbreeding with goblin to the point human and goblin are almost the same.
