I wish. He fuck sperged out over a cool (looking) mobile suit because of the story associated with it, which actually did work for a little bit.
I still love it, the ms designs, some character and the fights were really good. Despite some parts of the plot of season 2, I still think it a got a good, well disserved ending.

It's not his fault. His plan was doomed as soon as Gaelio was alive. The moment he was alive, McGillis had to rush things. Simply by not dying, he doomed his entire plan.
That must have brought Gaelio an incredible amount of satisfaction. Sure, he had the most powerful, most advanced war machine in the solar system, but he didn't technically need to use it. He could have sat back and watch McGillis get his asshole turned inside-out.
