You're missing the entire point of the character of Bert. If Armin was already an idealist, pacifist, who hesitated always before taking action, Bort was a much more inert version of that. Before the confrontation in Shinganshina, he reaches the less subtle and more in the nose 'peace of mind' moment ever written. He goes on about how this was the nature of the world, that fighting was unavoidable and that regardless of the result, he would be OK with it. He keeps that 'above it all' Zen state during the entire arc, and at the end, he panics, cries and suffers a pathetic death desperately wanting to be saved.

There was absolutely nothing he could've teached to the Mong, who already had another part of himself call him useless trash and desperately wanting to act and do something during the final arc, opposing that ataraxic view
