It's been over 3 years since this came out. Is it still considered to be the best shonen manga?

The ending is the only part that's good. Otherwise it's just BnHA passed through a 2010s HBO Original filter.

CSM has been the single best shonen manga for over 3 years now. There still hasn't been a better one and at this point there might as well never be one.

Eva was a huge super robot/tokushit homage you moron lol. Its most original idea was referencing Freud, whose theories Tomino already integrated seamlessly and 10x more realistically in Zeta Gundam.

I didn't mention super/real robot nor did I exclude tokusatsu. Eva is a mecha anime. It has monster-of-the-week Toeizinger shit littering most of the series.
I agree with you fully; Tomino already explored what Eva did with Gundam (the similarities with 0079 are palpable). Anno (and everyone else) drew huge inspiration from Tomino. The style employed in Eva is not the same as Gundam, however. The more in-your-face symbols relaying Freudian and Jungian ideas is not the same as the more subtle hero's journey/tragedy vehicle used by Tomino, although he did dabble there with the newtype shit.

What's so smart about CSM is throughout the whole first 8 volumes Fujimoto is just throwing edginess and tired tropes both in terms of plot beats and the action sequences themselves (I couldn't stop laughing when when the Katana fiend teleported behind Denji) in such a shameless, over-the-top manner. He taps into his inner teenager and makes a gritty, gory, sexed-up version of the typical battle shounen stacked with a huge cast of characters and monsters with their own quirks and rules. He even sneaks in some harem shit with all kinds of cute girls entering Denji's life (oh, who is he gonna chose?! So cute!). Fujimoto even pretends the story is driven by some cheap, transparent anti-gun message wrapped up in the Gun Devil.
What happens next is what makes it such a masterpiece. Fujimoto throws it all in the trash and shows you the real theme and the real moving character moments that have been built steadily despite the relatively fast pace of the story. He finally shows a deeper idea - the aspect of how just seeking comfort in food, boobies, and some bing-bang wahoo fun isn't enough for a fulfilling life. It makes you less than a man, into a dog.
