An absolute downgrade of anything that makes western elves good, restricted to being one-dimensional waifus that wouldn't exist in the story if they weren't attached to a human male self-insert (what a terrifying fate), almost always female and despite being hundreds to thousands of years old, most of the time unremarkable in terms o capabilities and experience. Often enough the butt of a joke instead of an awe-inspiring fantasy creature.
They lack history, unique cultures, great characters, interesting lore, depth and the themes that make them work.
The japs can't even design them well (probably because the regular anime girl is already a 11/10), they look way too human in most cases without the grace and elegance, since many of them are just fat cowtits with some additional pointy ears. Don't even get me started on femboy male elves (if the author ever dares portraying males)
In general, a huge tragedy. Mithrun is pretty cool though.
