Any good articles/videos discussing Anno's directorial style

Insight into how he made the action feel kinetic and how he made Evas look like they have a lot of weight, how he amps up suspense and drama, etc... I can tell it's cut above most anime series in terms of direction and editing but I would like to see the details of it.

you've identified something but STILL need a video to feed you an opinion about it? anno didn't even direct any episodes of nge

Just because Anno wasn't episode director on any of them doesn't mean his directorial style didn't affect any of them. If you look at Nadia, NGE and Karekano. Anno obviously has a distinct style that also evolves throughout.

Why do newfags need a 2 hour analysis explaining a thing they know?

I want to go on record for saying that I think the mech designs in Eva are incredibly overrated.

I wonder if he played Runequest like that Dark Souls guy.

Well, there's this video behind some of the development of 3.0+1.0? Though I'm not sure that's what you want

I can see that you've already been brainfucked by the cringeworthy crap for midwits that is “explanatory” videos. Instead of loving the thing with the help of your soul, and understanding it, you want to learn some terms and factoids you can use to impress others.

Start from figuring out the list of all bonus content in various editions, and how you can get them, what has been translated (officially and unofficially), what other interviews and statements exist.

Why

Also, make sure you've watched relevant anime to compare Evangelion direction with it.

Basically everything that you need to understand about Anno that sets him apart from his competition is that he really likes Gundam. I don't even mean that as a joke, his ability to draw complex machinery is in direct relationship with his love for mecha.

Everything else like writing and themes is just Gundam fanfics.

Not OP, but what's wrong with explanatory videos? It's not like he's looking for people to feed him interpretations of the medium, he's looking for stuff on the technical and animation side and cool directorial tricks. This just sounds like he's looking for behind-the-scenes stuff, so why all the seething?

>Not OP, but what's wrong with explanatory videos
Because most of the time these videos are made by e-celeb analysts that wanna make a brand for themselves, but don't know shit about what they are talking about or know just enough to be an annoying midwit.
This is a wider trend on social media and in real life, where people are told what to think about X subject, which is absolutely cancerous. Imageboards manage to eliminate this largely, by actively banning discussion of e-celebs or just frowning upon it.
If you actually dig through the trash of influencers, I can recommend you an outlet like Archipel, which makes documentaries about japanese artists and let those artists speak for themselves and what went behind their creations. Unfortunately, they haven't interviewed Anno, so it's kinda irrelevant to this thread

Why the fuck was I warned and the post was removed for literally answering OP's question, but the thread is still up?
If posting a video analysis ABOUT AN ANIME, in a thread that specifically asked for it, is somehow "off-topic" then surely the thread is too?

You mean, that they removed your post about digibro?

>OP asks if there are any good videos discussing Anno's directorial style
>I post a video literally titled "10 Cool Directing Tricks In Evangelion" and say there's an entire series about this
>somehow this is off-topic

Video named like that can only be shit. You would know if you were a grown up person.

Funniest thing I've read today. Welcome to Any Forums!

Only wankers of various kinds believe making those vapid “video essays” does any justice to their sources. Essentially, they do what rags do when they use headlines like “STAR X DID Y!”, that is, capitalize on the existing fame of someone else by announcing an “article” on them.

If you are an actual professional, like a cameraman, or intend to be one, there's a lot more that you're supposed to see and understand on your own, directly. Say, making a video on computer networks, and stating pompously that “ping is a simple tool that is present on basically every device nowadays, but in bad hands it can become DEADLY” can only impress completely clueless public. That's just entertaining journalism.

This

Which is why articles not just "videos"?(actual OP)
I wasn't asking for lore or theme analysis. Just interesting stuff on technical elements.

>he's looking for stuff on the technical and animation side and cool directorial tricks
Just rewatch Eva and pay attention. If there's a part you really like, replay it a couple of times, maybe mute it, go in slow mo
Unless you're 12 years old why would you need some faggy youtuber spoonfeeding you these things.
