hidan battle wasnt bad it was just slow like it was adressing retards. Hidanxkakazu bants were great and I liked how background chunin 1 and 2 were half competent. One thing i liked about naruto was that for the most part power levels were not balls to the wallz compared to other ninja until the last bit, and semi-proffessionals could last a bit dancing with major threats.
wasnt amazing though either.

A person can't write someone smarter than themselves. A mangaka like Togashi has a high IQ, so his geniuses are believable. Needless to say, the vast majority of creators (like other people) are average, so they can't do that.
HxH actually has the opposite problem, where people are far too intelligent. The average nen user appears to have an IQ in the top 2%, which doesn't make any sense considering the conditions for it.
