Veldanava's death is actually key to much of the plot of the story, he was killed about 2000 years before Rimuru's arrival and it triggered many chains of events.
Guy, Milim, and Rudra probably spent that whole time feeling lost and purposeless without Veldanava, it'd be similar to how the oni would be if Rimuru was killed
It's something that I don't think is touched upon enough because Fuse sucks at writing how characters feel about things
