TFS handled writing and characterization arguably better than Toriyama and Toei and that makes people mad for some reason. It enhanced the major characters by more deeply exploring their dynamics and interactions with each other (for example, delving more deeply into the complex relationship between Vegeta and Future Trunks and further exploring the pseudo father-son relationship between Piccolo and Gohan, which in itself led to a deeper analysis of Gohan's relationship with Goku) and gave minor characters that no one ever thought twice about rich, enthralling characterizations. Nappa was no longer a simple-minded, bloodthirsty brute, but a sophisticated, highly intelligent, yet violent sociopath, which made him so much more terrifying. Jeice and Burter, two non-characters whose only purpose was to get beaten by Goku, amplified the colorful and goofy characterization of the Ginyu Force by transforming into a duo of sorts that wouldn't be out of place in a classic buddy cop film. Nail, far from being a simple Piccolo clone, became a foil for Vegeta and a way to subtly enhance Piccolo's characterization. Guru went from generic old sage to a complex and ultimately malevolent, selfish character who portrayed the results of a trusted ruler falling to corruption and the temptation of power.
There's so much to explore and analyze in the way TFS wrote its characters (several of which they honestly made into their own) and story, arguably far more so than in the largely surface-level main series. Not liking it is fine, I suppose, but it shows a decided lack of critical thinking on the part of the detractor.

Fusion Reborn because so many characters got a chance to shine, even Mr. Satan, because Gogeta is a badass, and because Janemba is a far, far better antagonist than Buu.
Battle of Gods because of how scary Beerus was and how it returned somewhat to the OG roots without losing the feel of Z.
Least favorite are Bio Broly, Wrath of the Dragon, and Tree of Might. Bio Broly took a massive shit on the character and had one of the ugliest designs in the franchise, Wrath of the Dragon because it was hard to feel threatened by a big, boring kaiju and SS3 Goku outperforming Ultimate Gohan and SS3 Gotenks was dumb as shit (Dragon Fist was cool as fuck though), and Tree of Might because it was just fucking boring as shit throughout.
