OreImo S1 is one of the most fun anime I've ever watched. It takes a dip in S2 and becomes more generic and harem-y though.
You will definitely like it. I find it miles better than Eromanga Sensei.

It's all anachronistic at this point anyway. Kirino is a stereotypical late 00s/early 10s breed of otaku and the whole show is representative of that culture which doesn't really exist anymore. Modern Kirino would probably just be a gacha whale or something.

If you're gonna quit early, end on episode 9 or 10 (of s2). Ending on the "harem" arc and then skipping 13-16 is just retarded, the series is definitely better whole than ending on ep. 12.

Not necessarily, but you probably won't find many younger otaku with a closet full of physical eroge or posting on imageboards anymore. They're posting on twitter and playing gacha. There's also much less of a taboo aspect to the culture now, Kirino would probably feel no need to hide her interests in anime/manga as much as she did in the story. Finally, everything has become more digital, there's really no need to go to Akihabara or Comiket if you don't feel like it. Many Japanese don't even own a personal PC anymore, so that would probably change too in a modern retelling too.
