Current AI models prove that the holodeck should be able to arbitrarily pick a style to render visual information in, with realism most likely being an extremely highly computation intensive style. We're also at a point in real life where VTubers are an actual thing.
10 years from now, maybe 20. Given the current trajectory, even on the consumer level, anime will be real.

it was also innovative as in kirk having a black superior. and generally having optimistic scifi. in the fifties sci-fi mostly used to mean horror. the idea of powerful computers that can run a spaceship wasn't exactly invented by star trek. but it was a relative esoteric concept for hyper nerds and hard sci-fi very few people read. bringing that on national television then would have been as visionairy as a show about a facebook-style social media site in the 80s would have been

what's even more amazing is the (pseudo)creativity the ai sometimes comes up with. take this image for example. i wrote some silly prompt and the name of painter art nouveau painter alfons mucha. what i didnt expect was it didnt give me a pure art nouveau image but mixed mucha's style with the art direction from tng creating something entirely new and unique.
