The Fellowship of the Ring probably has one of the greatest opening sequences in cinema.
I've been rewatching the Peter Jackson films after seeing all the talk about The Rings of Power, but I still go back to the Peter Jackson Middle-earth films as the definitive adaptation.
They're still around.
New Line Cinema made the IT films, Shazam!, Black Adam, The Hobbit Trilogy, and even co-produced The Rings of Power with Amazon Studios (though that does not mean it's canon with the Peter Jackson films).
yeah, but they're basically an arm of WB now, Bob Shaye was forced out long ago.
>iconic but criminally underrated and misunderstood dark kino immediately follows
Aye, The very last thing New Line Cinema made without WB's involvement is actually The Rings of Power, which is more of an Amazon thing than a New Line thing.
first 30 seconds of Fellowship while the screen is still pitch black is better than both the Hobbit and Amazon's dumpster fire combined.

I agree with you. And I actually loved The Hobbit Trilogy.
The Hobbit was certainly watchable and had a few of really cool moment here and there, but as a whole there's not much to love
