Buddy, what did you think Hollywood was doing before women and minorities were more prominent in filmmaking? Hollywood has always taken old things and repurposed them. There's no surefire way of determining the success of a film, so inevitably they're going to pull stuff that's already worked before and try it again. How else are you going to get funding otherwise? No one's going to invest in entirely original properties that aren't proven unless people really have faith in your project because of the talent you've pooled together or they're dumbasses.
