Everybody says Tony was a sociopath, Melfi thought he was and even David Chase said it. But was he? Why does he have empathy for animals; I thought sociopaths didn't have any empathy? Why does he seem to love his kids if he's a sociopath?

He cares more about animals than humans.

Sociopath gets thrown around a lot by people who don't know what it means.

Sociopathy is a spectrum, like autism. Obviously Tony is far more sociopathic than your typical Joe Jerkoff, but compared to people like Ritchie Aprile or Phil Leotardo he's a fucking teddy bear.

May as well ask what Hannibal was too. People are too complex I think to be put in such rigid categories.

sociopaths can feel things and have a small pool of things they care about

they can fuck over everyone else

some are pure psychopaths out of trauma though and wont feel anything for anything

He has selective empathy and can switch it off to be ruthless when necessary. Most men used to be able to do this before they were fully domesticated by globo-homo. (sociopathy is natural and to some extent a good thing)

“Sociopath” and “psychopath” are buzzwords thrown around by retards. Nobody with any credibility uses those terms. Tony, like the rest of his glorified crew, would qualify as having Antisocial Personality Disorder which is a catch-all term for people with “sociopathic” tendencies. It’s also a spectrum, like everything else. So Tony can have APD and still like animals. These are people that find it very easy to justify their immoral behaviour. It’s very rare to find someone with zero empathy. In fact you’re more likely to find that in someone with severe autism or Asperger’s.

He was a textbook misanthrope. He even gets tired of his own friends and family.

He's a sociopath, not a psycopath

he literally doesn't have empathy for animals, in the episode where he kills his own nephew the B plot is about him dumping asbestos into the lake. The ducks symbolize Tony's family, and you can hear quacking as the asbestos is dumped. There's a reason the most important death has a subplot about killing ducks. Like how Tony doesn't really care for his family, he doesn't care for animals. Everything comes secondary to himself.

Also earlier in the series he asked for DDT

Phil leotardo isnt really a sociopath. He's vengeful and emasculated.

A timeline of Phil in the show

>spends an unspecified amount of time in the can
>presumably has sex with a man in prison
>gets beat up in the street by tony and his car wrecked
>his brother gets shot by that animal Blundetto (can't even say his name) and he fails to protect him
>doesn't get to torture and kill Tony, Uncle Al, instead Tony does the murder himself
>his cousin is married to a fag and he needs tony's permission to kill him

You can see why he is the way that he is. He gets kicked around constantly throughout season 5 and 6a. He's sort of the Walter White of the Sopranos. Constantly emasculated and has a desire for revenge and proving his masculinity

I think the sociopathy doesn't come from the presence of some listed symptoms but from his ability to be so good at being evil.
As Artie and Scatino said, even if he's nice, he cares and feels bad sometimes for what he's doing, he has this thing for finding how to do the shittiest thing to people and gaining benefits for it. The guy is the fucking Lionel Messi of the Mafia, the Moriarty of organized crime. Even if he wanted to, he couldn't escape the gift for evil God has ironically given him.
He has the soul of a devil in the mind of an angel.
That's where the "sociopathic coldness" everyone labels him comes from, for me.

He has empathy for things that don't disappoint him, which is hard for an animal since your expectations are so low. The reason he treats people different as time goes on (AJ, Cristopher, etc.) is because they disappoint him somehow and he never lets go of it. A non-sociopath would be able to forgive and work with assisting people's flaws.

Incorrect assessment. Even the absolute psycho Paulie said there wasn't a bigger prick alive than Phil during the Columbo Wars, he was just as bad even before prison.

DEE DEE TEEEEEE!

Confirmed for not watching or understanding the show.
Tonys crew were the laughing stock of organized crime and the series is about their myopic view of their position in the order of things

I hate wrestling fans.

Why the fuck should we believe Paulie? He's a compulsive liar and does so many pussy things

>Annoys tony so much when he's in a coma that he almost kills him
>Doesn't share the tictacs with Christopher
>Attacked Valery the russian for no reason
>Killed an old lady just for her money
>Doesn't pay up to Carmela when Tony's in his coma
>Snitches to Johnny Macaroni about the Ginny Sack joke and the housing project scam Ralph was doing
>Possibly killed pie-oh-my
>Killed a waiter over a small tip
>Possibly betrayed Tony and killed him in the finale

For all we know he's just bitching about some stupid shit Phil did. Listen to how he talks about Christopher and tell me with a straight face you think he's a reliable source

Imagine being someone who calls themselves a "Sopranos fan". Your day to day routine consists of repeatedly watching clips of the show over and over again while yelling quotes from the show at your monitor. You chuckle to yourself as you read the YouTube comments and see others repeating the same quotes you just yelled out.

After a 7 hour binge of clips you decide to go and eat "gabagool" because your entire pathetic existence revolves around The Sopranos and every moment of your life must be in some way shape or form, a reference to The Sopranos.

After eating 6 lbs of garbage deli meats you make your way to Any Forums, where you and the the only other two Sopranos fans proceed to shit up the board with quotes from the show and samefagging each other until the thread hits bump limit. Repeat for three hours.

Once you finally reach your point of no return you put on "Talking Sopranos" and make sure to have a last minute snack of 2lbs of gabagool before you fade out into a food coma while the sounds of hack Sopranos actors wax nostalgia over their glory days.

What a pathetic life to live.

So sociopaths are like tainted isaac?
