In terms of cultural value, absolutely

It peaked in the early 1950s, what do you think?

nobody today would understand

Everything worth doing with the genre has already been done.

yes but there've been so many made, the genre is full of hidden gems

Not really, but after unforgiven and the 90's you can only make bleak ones

For the most part, yes. Just low-budget indie westerns get made anymore and most are bad.

Pretty sure WW2 movies will follow the same track.

Ultra WOKE movie studios just don’t want to make movies starring white men anymore.

Considering that most the pics in that collage are from the post-western era, absolutely. It got so thoroughly overdone as a genre that they had to make a new genre for new themes, and now even that genre is considered finished.
At this point, nearly anything new in western is essentially pastiche.

It's sci-fi schlock is underused in film media. They work best as family drama or survival.

Just think of all the hipsters in the 50s that whined about westerns because there were a hundred every year.

Funny how they could make a hundred a year and nobody got shot on set

if your idea of a good western is picrel, you should kys

Yes. Everything now has to revolve around nogs so even if was was made it would be nog centric. Bollywood could make a better western than anyone today.

They were just shitty copies of Kurosawa in the end. Overrated as fuck genre.

Back then American High Schools had clay shooting teams. You didn't have as many gun-retarded people as you do now

This is the correct take. Most of Any Forums doesn't watch films more than 50 years old, but if they did they'd realize how done to death the Western genre is.

I can't watch his movies because they are in black and white

genres are never done to death, you could write the same relationship dynamics as in lotr or star wars into the plot of a western

in terms of new ones being made sure, because modern filmmakers and studios suck, however kevin costner is doing a new one, I trust him
but I see signs of new interest in westerns simply because they're non woke and have great stories and action, and most people have not seen the best the genre has to offer, it's a goldmine

bs, the values are timeless and why they are gaining popularity

>Pretty sure WW2 movies will follow the same track.
yep, the further away you get from an incident, the less equipment, veterans, direct knowledge is at hand
roland emmerich's midway was a CG fest with a bunch of fresh nobodies who had never been in war
while hollywood's other films on midway had actual surplus equipment from the actual war, actors and crew who actually were in the war, it is much more real

you can say that about any genre

they would realise hollywood has been showing them pure shit for the last 20 years

starwars is a space western

It was dead before you was born.

no. the wild west is still a mystical place. so westerns can be made to portrait historical realism west. which is way more interesting than the "fantasy" that westerns portrait

At this point, yes. But who knows, everybody said pirate movies were bad and then Pirates of the Carribean drops (yes, the sequals were garbage)

>everybody said pirate movies were bad
there honestly hasnt been many and still hasnt been one done realistically

potc is basically a live action cartoon
