Why did certain, specific commercials seem to get endlessly played and overplayed on television compared to all the other commercials, to the point where (as this thread evidences) they became a meme due to everyone recognizing them?

Did these specific products/the companies behind them just dump a comparatively exorbitant amount of money into their advertising budget for whatever reason and just get comparatively excessive rotation on-air?

I remember back then they would literally play the same commercial on every break, multiple times occasionally. Probably paid more money, or there were available slots and they just took them all. I don't know.
