Not really, it was more of a novelty. There wasn't a whole lot to compare it to, although stuff like the T-1000 & the ship in Flight of the Navigator was already around & highly regarded. Tbqh, Lawnmower Man wasn't that big of a deal when it came out, whatever kind of cult status it may have achieved since then.
