The problem with Tolkien's work is that it's an insult to treat it as a brand with a "fandom" like Marvel or Star Wars slop. His books were much more deliberate than throwing some guys with funny names into a fantasy world and having them fight each other. Much more deliberate than media that bets the farm on having epic twists to keep audiences glued to their TVs. Jackson's films, while good in their own right, invited in a certain audience that started to treat Tolkien's work as a facet of "nerd culture," and this Amazon series is the natural, cynical response to that. The problem for Amazon is that Tolkien's audience in general is uniquely positioned to spot this cynicism. It was never going to be good, and any fan with his head on straight new this, so now it's dependent on, again, the obnoxious nerds who make the LotR films a facet of their identities, right next to Star Trek and Batman.

There is plenty of room in the cannon to introduce black cultures, and any other culture. However, "black elves" is dumb as fuck as elves have already been established to be of fair skin. "Black elves" makes as much sense as purple lions.

It wouldn’t be better if the cast was all white, but it would indicate that the creators actually gave a shit about appropriate casting. The problem begins with the “woke” mindset which poisons every aspect of the creative process. A good, honest show can not be created under the conditions that are required for these productions. If RoP was created in good faith free of the woke poison everything would be better, and the cast being white would just be a side note.
Tolkein was radically anti-racist for his time period and openly condemned the eugenic racial views of the third reich. I'm not saying he would approve of black elves but he'd absolutely condemn the reasons you're upset about them.
All productions reflect their production environments. More non-white people work in Anglo film productions, so of course they also get roles. Most people in real life don't care about any of this.
