Why do people say this scene makes no sense?

They woke up one of their creators and used something that looks and acts like them but isn't alive as their translator because none of them bothered to learn the language of their creators and asked for immortality and answers while interrupting each other and being violent in his presence.
Why is the Engineer's reaction so surprising to so many?

I think it's pretty simple. Engineers wanted to destroy humanity, because it was a failure. And this interaction only reinforced the notion.

>They woke up
an alien soldier most likely, and uttered idiocies.

The plot needed them to be impolite idiots. Bravo Ridley!

Deleted scenes and early drafts of script support this.

The Engineers had monitored Humans and tried many times to solve the problem of our violence. Earth was considered by them to be a paradise and we were expected to reflect that.

Early version of the script even had the Engineer here explain it in depth, describing how at one point they even took a Human child back to their world, educated him with life lessons and sent him back to us, only for him to be killed (implied to be Jesus). This was seen as the final evidence that Humans were a failed species and the Engineers then prepared to destroy us and start again.

The black goo ruined their plans. It was used by them to both create and destroy but eventually destroyed most of them. They also had lost the ability to reproduce, and some versions of script also mention they were attempting to transcend to a higher existence, so may also explain why so many disappeared.

Watching the crew of Prometheus argue and commit violence against one another, as well as the realisation that we were now creating artificial life and capable of interstellar travel meant we were now seen as even more dangerous to the Engineer and reinforced his existing ideas that we should be put down.

uh yeah but the engineer used violence too so the whole argument is moot

The writers are to blame, but fuck him for agreeing to direct that shit script

How the fuck are humans supposed to know that androids are "bad" in Engineer culture? You'd think they would be fucking impressed.
What kind of hyper-advanced intelligence being would just wake up from a millennia of hibernation, ask no questions, and just start killing everyone without even an iota of consideration or getting its bearings? It has no idea what the fucking context of the situation, or even what all has happened during the hibernation.
Unless we are mean to understand that the engineers are niglet space chimps, their behavior is nonsensical. But space-chimps will never have FTL and godlike nanotech.
And why the fuck did the engineers all make Earth signposts to a weapons research facility so deadly that it's on an isolated planet away from the main civilization?

This movie has some nice visuals, but the writing is strictly tik-tok tier. It's a huge insult to audiences over 10yo

The Engineer did it as a final resort. They had tried to help Humanity, but we couldn't learn to improve (in their opinion).

I personally don't agree that they should have judged a relatively early society on the actions of a few. Most people throughout history will be powerless to change the world around them in any meaningful way.

But then again, perhaps the Engineers had seen this kind of thing many times. Who knows how many other species they'd discovered or created and could see they we were on the same path to becoming dangerous.

Prometheus a great movie and I hope that any pleb faggots who shits on it gets lung cancer

>aliens spawn cultures all over the world so separated by time and distance that they had no contact
>they give their language to one tribe in the Caucasus

I thought Prometheus sucked and I don't smoke.
Cope.

The deleted scenes do go some way to explain it. But ultimately that's no excuse, they don't exist in the movie.

The scene originally has David explain to the Engineer that Weyland wants to live forever. When the Engineer asks why Weyland thinks he deserves that, Weyland goes on a long rant about how he has now created new life (David) and travelled across space. Weyland compares himself to a god, and to the Engineer, so believes he should live forever.

This alarms the Engineer. The last thing he remembers before being rudely awoken is that Humans were to be destroyed due to their violence and now they're on his ship asking for immortality while attacking each other (the Engineer reacts strongly when Shaw is hit by Weylands guard).

>none of them bothered to learn the language of their creators
how would they have done that?

the robot did

>wants to kill humanity
>gives them the coordinates to their military base

David is speaking Proto Indo-European, one of (if not the) oldest known languages. If you were speaking to an ancient alien it would be worth trying something they may have been aware of.

the researchers should already know a bit of P.I.E. if they are out looking for the aliens that founded human civilisation. theres no reason for David not to have taught them some since the whole mission was to make contact

Ruched and flopped

imagine you make an ant colony, the ant colony is fucking up and you decide to drown it and start again, before you get the chance something happens in the ship that causes you to have to enter crysosleep
you get woken up by these ants, they have kept developing, have left their enclosure and are now scuttling around your, assumed, high security and extremely dangerous facility, the ants have made their own ants and are now trying to order you around
engineer did nothing wrong

One of the deleted dialogues explains that Weylands daughter deliberately recruited the biggest plausible morons he could find for the "research" team, just to fuck over dear daddy. The move clearly shows her to have a daddy complex. Sole exceptions were Shaw and his chubby which were hand picked by Weyland.

Seeing what raging morons they were through the movie the idea still remained and I frankly doubt they had neither the discipline or intelligence to learn an archaic ancient language on the off chance an alien may or may not have have heard it during its visits.

So the Jews damned humanity to extermination, what a red pilled script. Bravo Riddler
