release of the new LOTR inspired series spurred me to rewatch the original trilogy after 15 years. extended editions for the 1st time. this experience disillusioned me very much with the movies. I dare you to rewatch it and then judge if it's really such kino or is it mostly childhood nostalgia
>1st movie is vastly superior to the other movies
>it constantly moves forward, with each scene you get a different environment
>in 2nd and 3rd movies you basically stay in the same place so the pace is kill
>all the tension you felt throughout the 1st movie is gone, there's no threat
>the characters are shallow, you don't give a fuck about them
>Jackson added le romantic subplot that doesn't pay off, also women stronk moment
>he turned it into an action movie, what saved it from Amazon's series fate was that it was still too early for diversifying casts
>some CGI is very dated and cringe
>what's good is decent cast (some shit performances there tho), the budget that let them get nice props, alright CGI (for the time) and nice locations and the fact that it the first film adaptation of LOTR so it had nothing to compare it to thus being overrated as a fantasy film
>Hobbits' and Ents' scenes are boring
>Men one hit destroy any forces of evil, there's no point to those fights when you know nobody will be hurt and those that do get hurt you don't care for (except for Gandalf and Boromir scenes)
>Legolas and Gimli are shallow and their excution in the film cringe
>cheezy dialogues
maybe it was impossible to make those films great adaptations with such time constraints, maybe it's just a book that's not easy to adapt for a film - with long passages of just talk and singing and nothing happening on a microscale - Jackson had to exaggerate the fighting parts making an action film out of it so people would digest it more easily
LOTR Trilogy very overrated
Jackson Hackson. Over use of close ups and slow motion. And we can thank him for how Hollywood is all now dialogue snap cut frames back and forth.
I mean wide angle shots? We didn't get to see sets and armor and stuff. All we got was Mortensen and Tyler's face not Aragon and Athens face in our fucking face. Know what I mean...
Kill yourself
Arwen I said
Amazon shills getting really desperate now.
I haven't seen the Amazon series and I don't plan to watch it. I'm only grateful to it because it made me rewatched the old trilogy. I'm a nazi so trust me, I'm not into that shit
Aragon killed an Emissary in the movies
Tolkien woul role in his grave
Yeah but the battle in two towers was awesome, the third movie truly sucks my dick if it wasn’t for sam and frodo it would be 0/10 also smegol or whatever the fuck ruins both movies
This. The first one is the only good one, the rest is cartoonish capeshit without soul. Its a shame because fellowship might be the best film of all time.
No he wouldn't, the mouth of sauron is literally a monster, nobody cares if he gets killed. There is no such thing as diplomacy with mordor.
The beginning of the battle in Two Towers was awesome but it then turned to cringe. But it was better than the battle in the Return of the King i guess. Still, I found the 3rd movie to be superior to the 2nd.
I never thought the narrative would shift from "at least it's not Hobbit" to "who cares if it's shit, the movies were never good so now you have to watch it!" this quickly.
There is, in the book Saruman is thrown into a cell. They don't kill him because he's respected for being a good wizard in the past.
I still like them, but they definitely drag on and on. One criticism I have is their overuse of 'heartfelt' close ups, such as Sam at the end of 2 or Sam again at the end of 3. Jackson keeps shoving these supposedly 'meaningful' moments in our face, but they become eye rolling. Spider man homecoming had a lot of this shit too. These preachy moments are completely unneeded since the viewer can derive all of this from the events on the screen.
Saurons forces never seem dangerous. Also, the color palette of these films is very bland, made worse by the numerous HD editions where an odd blue filter is shoved on everything. The first film starts so strong but the rest are just us waiting for them to destroy the stupid ring.
>Maybe if we shit on the movies people will automatically like our show!?
To be fair, generally people aren’t complaining about the quality of the new show; they’re complaining about its diverse cast. It’s literally just racists crying about “why can’t everything be all white?”; nothing to do with the Jackson trilogy being better in any meaningful sense. The production value of the show is at least on par with the movies, the dialogue has been as well written so far, the music may be even better, and there hasn’t been any cringe homoeroticism or overly sappy heavy handed emotional showings like the movies are notorious for.
>The central problem in all of this is that these issues would be quite easy to fix. But they aren’t, because Peter Jackson seems unable to convey his characters’ interior lives through effective visual cues. Everything becomes obvious and explicit.
>It’s apparent from the opening scenes of the movie. Instead of making the audience feel lost in the desolation of Emyn Muil, the characters just announce it. The same thing happens two minutes later. Rather than build up the sense of dread that would come from being followed through an endless rock maze, Frodo simply tells Sam “we’re not alone” and the scene ends. The same thing happens in Fangorn. Rather than building a sense of atmosphere, Legolas announces that something’s out there and 20 seconds later Gandalf is back. Rather than convey the fact that Frodo sees himself in Gollum, Jackson has Frodo literally say it, then follows it up fifteen seconds later with Sam yelling it at him. Jackson either has a poor sense of subtlety or a deep distrust of his audience’s ability to follow a scene.
Only in the Extended Edition, but yes, Aragorn and company would not kill an emissary that is there to give terms.
There IS diplomacy with Mordor, they come to make deals with all sorts of factions before teh war truly breaks out. Once they are declined then they muster against that force (see: Dale and Erebor as an example).
Saruman isn't thrown into a cell, he's seiged in Orthanc since the fortress is impenetrable. He can't leave, but they can't get in. He's a prisoner in that regard, but it's not a cell. He manages to leave later because of the power of his voice, he tricks Treebeard into letting him go free.
To be fair you're parroting shill talking points. I've seen almost nothing but people turning this shit off in disgust in the first half hour, never seeing a single nonwhite. The writing is fucked, the pacing is awful, and not a single character is compelling enough to spend any time staring at. Not to mention Bear McReady's worst soundtrack yet.
Even if they gave a shit about the lore this outing would still be embarrassing.
>They show that Peter Jackson is not capable of writing and directing a script with narrative efficacy and efficiency. Without that foundation, the myriad storylines in The Two Towers become erratic and unbalanced. Characters often feel hollow. The movie manages to feel both too long and overstuffed. Time is wasted with drawn-out declarations of the obvious while nuance is dispensed with due to lack of time. In the end, despite its beauty, it makes for a frustrating, exhausting film.
I wish I got paid by Amazon to say this shit guys, but I'm not, I'm just disillusioned with the films. People who actually read the book don't necessarily love the movies.
If you didn't think decapitating the mouth of sauron was great then I proudly refuse to associate with you and would be ashamed to know you.
