His lack of philanthropy as well as his prime reasoning for being a vigilante are imbedded into the theme of the fucking movie. Being gracious and inspiring is what Batman is! And Reeves spends three hours shitting on why "le morally grey" Batman is a bad idea.

First off, you're contradicting yourself. How can Batman be gracious if he has a huge ego? I agree that Batman has a huge ego. He thinks that he is Gotham's savior and he can never show weakness. Only he can do it and he can't accept help from anyone.The other thing is that he thinks that he's GOTHAM'S savior specifically. Not just the people of Gotham. And obviously yes, he cares about saving people. Otherwise he wouldn't be a hero. But that doesn't make him gracious or inspiring. The cop that pulled a guy out of a burning building isn't inspiring if he also takes bribes not to arrest the mafia that set the fire in the first place.
