Did you like this movie, user? What did you like of it?

It's my favorite Aronofsky movie.

I wasnt that big on it, but what finally won me over is I realized mickey rourke is an actor, hes not this big wrestler guy. then I realized damn, you kind of just assume he is this character, that is how great he is.

Do you like wrestling?

It's a great film actually.

so for you it's mostly about his performance.
He was undoubtedly good at it, but can a single actor make the movie worth it? Tomei was also decent.
Not really. But I don't think that matters a lot, the movie is really good at conveying what makes wrestling enjoyable.

>Fucking 80s, man, best shit ever. Bet your ass, man. Guns N' Roses fucking rules. Crüe. Def Lep. Then that Cobain pussy had to come around and ruin it all. Like there's something wrong with wanting to have a good time. I'll tell you something. I hated the fucking 90s. 90s fucking sucked.

But liking Wrestling or not is literally the main reason ppl get filtered by it. It's a hommage to wrestlers and while it's good in conveying what makes wrestling enjoyable you'd only get half of what it's conveying.

I don't think wrestling was ever the focus, it might as well have been another sport entirely; it was simply the story of a decayed champion.

And that's why you got filtered. That's not bad because Wrestling is retarded but everyone with a 3 digit IQ that likes it knows that. The movie went above and beyond to capture that and by simply Not having any interest in wrestling those moments just went by you making you think it could have been any other "sport".

i honestly think its one of best movies ever made. one of the best performances as well. great script and direction.

Yes it's certified kino

I watch it several times a year. It's pretty good. It didn't have explosions like a MCU movie but it was good

Rourke did great. And the character is a washed up bum, which is pretty much where his career was at that point. I thought it was a bit boring, but ok.

Looks like I'll never be able to fully appreciate this movie without liking wrestling as well. Thanks, user.

bro that's just fucking retarded.
you don't need to be a musician to appreciate amadeus or an astrounat to appreciate whatever the fuck.
we get it, you are able to enjoy it more and understand secret subliminal messages pedestrians like us can only dream of observing because you enjoy the most retarded "sport" in western society.

It reminded me of what it was like to be a kid and watch RAW and Smackdown.
But it also showed me Marisa Tomei's tits, so the film has many layers. Another layer would be Randy working at the counter and dealing with difficult customers.

But it greatly helps to appreciate the wrestler if you know wrestling for the many special circumstances that "sport" has and for the many nods to real life events and problems there are. (Professional) Wrestling isn't a sport - it's a show. There is no contest. It should be baffling that someone risks his health and life for something that's more like a stageplay than a sport all while being obsessed with delivering the best performance like it's a sport. And the wrestler often adressed this while making subtle nods to real life events.
So while a viewer might go "that's retarded / bad writing" a fan goes "yeah that actually happened" which can alter your perception of the movie.

>Randy working at the counter
best part hands down. I'd watch a whole hour of it.

Try living it...

yes i enjoyed the wrestler very much.

I've worked as a cashier for 10 months. But I'm not Robin.

Its actually my favourite movie period
I am not even a big Fan of Wrestling

Yes I thought it was fantastic
Best Rourke performance

I couldn't take it for more than 3.

I agree it was miserable, but still better than warehouse work, and I was doing both. As soon as I got another job opportunity I yeeted the fuck out of there. Fuck supermarkets, man.

I haven't seen the movie, but I have no idea why any straight male wants to see two shirtless muscle bound guys playing make believe and rolling around on the ground together

"My mother Thetis tells me that there are two ways in which I may meet my end. If I stay here and fight, I shall lose my safe homecoming but I will have a glory that is unwilting: whereas if I go home my glory will die, but it will be a long time before the outcome of death shall take me."

One of the greatest of all time. Could've been ruined so easily, but everything about the final stretch of the movie is just perfect. It could've easily been cynical, but it instead managed to capture the tragic and beautiful nature of the lives of men.
And then Rourke lost the oscar to some movie about a gay guy. FUCK hollywood.
