Finally watched this

solid 9/10
1 point taken off for the fake strong female character

my thoughts exactly. show was top tier kino but that character wasn't even a real person and existed solely to tell the powerful men how dumb they were compared to her

I'd take 2 points off for something like that.

You guys remember the memes? It was a great time to be on Any Forums.

Agreed but everything else from dialogue, casting, costume design, sub plots etc makes it an 11/10 so 9/10 overall.

great show but much of the shit they just made up, like the big trial at the end was nothing like the real events

I agree with this general rating

Real great series, fake female scientist really stuck out from the rest of it

show should've been in russian.
completely destroyes the atmosphere, a country that is excessively patriotic, enemies of the US and speaking english.
just like Der Untergang would have been trash if it was in english.
anyways it's a nice show.

She was based on an actual female scientist. Chud getting mad at fake news again

I watch it in original language and it didn't compromise the atmosphere for me at all
t. russian

>naked miners
>Shcherbyna not understanding a nuclear reactor
>constant threats to have people shot
>KGB conspiracy
>big trial at the end where Legasov spills the beans
>misrepresents radiation sickness
>bridge of death

hmmm

She should have been two characters. One with a big mouth who gets disappeared by the secret police and one who's more useful. Jared Harris shouldn't have been able to get her out of going to the gulag.

>constant threats to have people shot
it literally happens in russia to this day. Few days ago they threw the guy out of the window because he said war bad. He was a manager of big company Łukoil.

They didn't need to do this in the 80's because the population was already so buck broken that they literally couldn't conceive of disobeying orders.

good one bro, you got me
top tier memes

What is your problem with women? Have sex. They explicity told in the end that she was fictional. Damn, have sex

There's a lot more about it that's fake besides just the Khomyuk character. For example, the ridiculously cartoonish Dyatlov character who might as well have just been twirling his mustache in the show. Or the fact that the show makes it seem like people had to live in fear of getting shot for making a mistake in the fucking late 1980s Soviet Union, LMAO. It wasn't Stalin's time, for fuck's sake. Or the complete fiction of Legasov at the trial in the last episode. This show is basically just loosely inspired by the real events of Chernobyl and I really wish they had just made the show about a fictional nuclear disaster instead of misleading people about the real one.

Yes, because today's Russia is a gangster state that quite possibly has less rule of law than the late 1980s Soviet Union did.

yes but why did I know this before it ended?
because they pulled all the clichés
she had to be strong, independent and smarter than the men
it's so apparent they have to force this in that I wonder if it's a condition to get financing

anti soviet cynicism coming from soviet characters felt very weird to me
even in the 80s, the overall sentiment wouldn't be like the one portrayed in the show
it all sounded very much like what a western liberal democrat would say

I loved this show, did some research and then I realised this was basically fiction. Kinda ruined it for me, cannot bring myself to rewatch it after seeing the baffling zombie style makeup and playing up the European apocalyptic scenario and the explosions.

Go back tourist.

They could have made a show about a fictional nuclear disaster and then made whatever plot they wanted. But that wouldn't have made as much money cause it wouldn't have had the built-in recognition of the "Chernobyl" name. So instead they made this half-fictional show that shits all over the real events and misleads people who don't read a lot of history. But of course if you ask the show-makers they'll probably talk a lot about how important it was for them to honor the memory of the people who died, blah blah blah.
These fucktards used the name and memory of the real Chernobyl incident to make a bunch of money by writing a show that is loosely inspired by the real events and greatly misrepresents them.

It's 2023 nigger. Grow up.

>and then I realised this was basically fiction.
chernobyl disaster really happened
