Fellowship of the Ring is almost a perfect movie.
The other two are okay. Jackson goes too ham with the action and CGI. Fellowship has more emphasis on organic effects, sets, and costumes, with smaller fights, and you can really feel the difference if you watch them back to back. Fellowship also has a perfect beginning, middle, and end structure and the other two suffer from feeling like incomplete parts of a whole (TT in particular has middle movie syndrome)

Yeah, if I revisit Jackson's trilogy I will often stop after the first film. I also do this with the books, however. In both mediums, the first instalment is the best. Discovering the world is more interesting than dwelling in it.
